Nex owner to appoint Professional Engineer for investigation after falling ventilator injures moviegoers: BCA

The object that had fallen was a Air-conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV) duct.

A ventilator of no small size fell from the ceiling at Shaw Theatres, Nex, on Aug. 30.

The incident had taken place during the screening of "Tenet", at around 4:45pm.

Two moviegoers were injured.

In response, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has released a statement.

The object that had fallen was a Air-conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV) duct, and the authority had sent an engineer to investigate the incident on the same day at 6:30pm,

The cinema's closure, pending further investigation, was also instructed by BCA.

In addition, the builder owner has been required to appoint a Professional Engineer to:

  • Carry out a detailed investigation of the incident
  • Inspect and assess the condition of the other ACMV ducts in the cinema
  • Recommend rectification measures to be carried out by the building owner

The incident has even made it to American entertainment site, Variety.
