Motorcyclist & pedestrian get a little too close to NDP2020 mobile column, narrowly avoid accidents

Always look left and right before crossing the road.

National Day Parade (NDP) took a very different form to what Singaporeans are used to this year.

One particular highlight for many was the mobile column — featuring 66 assets from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) — which stretched its route deep into the heartlands.

The occasion brought many excited Singaporeans to the roadside as they waved flags and cheered the procession.

However, it also brought some interruption of regular programming to the roads of Singapore, with traffic stopped to allow the column to pass through unimpeded.

Inevitably, not everyone was compliant, as videos circulating on social media and messaging apps appeared to show.

Motorcyclist attempts to dash through a junction

One example was this incident which occurred at the junction of Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 and Choa Chu Kang Loop:

Unperturbed by traffic to his left and right at a standstill, one motorcyclist attempted to dash across the junction

Thankfully, he was stopped by traffic marshal stationed at the junction.

Some loud whistling and a talking to sent the motorcyclist wheeling his vehicle back to safety.

Incoming vehicle

It wasn't just motorists that were out of line, but pedestrians too.

At an undetermined location in the heartlands, one elderly man was seen trying to cross the road while the column was rolling by.

The man is nearly run over by an oncoming military vehicle before an officer standing by the roadside alerts him to the danger.

"People stop you go ah?" the officer shouts to the man who puts up a one-off protest.

"I stand here for what??" the officer adds.

Another man actually managed to make it through.

A video uploaded to Facebook by SG Road Vigilante shows a man jaywalking midway through the mobile column procession and stationary traffic as he tried to take a photo.

Yikes.
