Dengue cases are on the rise in Singapore, with a 25-year-old person in Singapore dying from it.

A 25-year-old person became the youngest person to die from the disease in Singapore in 2020.

The dengue threat was also reiterated in a Facebook post by photographer Marklin Ang.

He got dengue a total of three times.

Dengue experiences

In his post, Ang shared his experiences with dengue.

"Yes, three times," he said. "How unlucky can one be?"

The first time, he woke up in the middle of the night with a burning forehead and terrible backache.

He then realised that it was not "a normal fever", and his gut instinct told him to get a blood test done.

He was admitted into hospital shortly after.

On the most recent occasion, which took place in 2017 and was the third time he got dengue, he said his fever shot up to beyond 40˚C and he needed a blood transfusion.

"I was basically pale and laid motionless on the hospital bed, and my back was aching terribly," he said.

He added that the fevers can also cause brain damage, and according to him, this was exactly what happened to him, as he finds his short-term memory deteriorating.

"I hope it wouldn't happen to anyone else"

For Ang, his encounters with dengue did not stop there as his elderly mother recently contracted dengue fever as well.

They live in a dengue red cluster, he explained, and with Singapore hitting an all-time high for dengue cases, he urged others to be mindful of the threat.

"I hope it wouldn’t happen to her (my mother) or anyone else again."
