Minister for Education and Multi-ministry Taskforce (MTF) co-chair Lawrence Wong assured again that the testing of workers in the dormitories will be completed by August 7, the targeted deadline.
In his Facebook post on August 7, he said that the MTF would have finished testing all workers in the dormitories by the end of day.
High case counts expected for several more days
Wong highlighted that there is a final batch of workers who are still in quarantine for up to another two weeks and they will be tested before the end of their quarantine.
He added that there might be several more days of high case counts of those with Covid-19 infections, depending on the outcome of these final exit tests.
Wong mentioned that by the end of August, most migrant workers in the dormitories should be able to head back to work.
"We have reached a major milestone": Wong
Describing the testing and clearing of all migrant workers as a "massive undertaking", Wong thanked the officers and their family members in the Joint Taskforce for their efforts in the past four months.
He also called the completion of dormitory clearance a major milestone in the fight against Covid-19.
However, he reminded his audience that the fight against the virus is not over:
"Just because we have Covid-cleared dorms today doesn’t mean that we will automatically have Covid-safe dorms in the future."
The taskforce will also continue to work with employers and dorm operators to "ensure safer working and living arrangements for migrant workers, and to keep the infection under control", said Wong.
