Google announced on Aug 4 that the Pixel 4a will be coming to Singapore.
Their latest addition to Pixel smartphone lineup will only cost S$499.
It follows in the footsteps of the Pixel 3A by trying to offer value at a low cost. According to Google's blog post, the Pixel 3a "gave people a chance to get the helpful features of Pixel at a more affordable price" and the Pixel 4a will continue to do the same.
For comparison, their previous premium smartphone, the Pixel 4, costs S$1,119.
The Pixel 4a also undercuts Apple's entry to the budget smartphone lineup. The iPhone SE costs S$649 without contract in Singapore.
Great camera
The Pixel series has earned a reputation of having a great camera that can produce photos that are comparable with those taken on an iPhone.
The Pixel 4a follows that tradition, with early reviews saying that Google did not compromise on that feature to make up for the lower price.

It will come with a 12.2 megapixel camera, as well as all the camera software features found in the other Pixel phones.
Only one option
The smartphone will also come in only one colour — "Just Black" — and only one option in terms of specs.
It will have 128GB of storage, 6GB of RAM and have Qualcomm Snapdragon 730. What this means is that it will not be as fast as the Pixel 4, which comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.
It will also have a headphone jack and a fingerprint sensor, appealing to those who are slightly more budget conscious.
Open for pre-order
The Pixel 4a is now available for pre-order on the Google store website. According to the website, the delivery is estimated to be between Sep 8-9.
Those looking to see the phone for themselves before purchasing will have to wait till mid-October. The smartphone will only be available at Courts and Challenger, reported The Straits Times.
