Someone out there is using the name of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to scam companies, Singapore Civil Defence Force cautioned.

According to a statement from the SCDF on Aug. 12, this individual (or group) sent fake emails to various companies to try and procure items from them.

The emails were also signed off by someone posing as an SCDF officer. The statement demonstrated how to tell the real and fake emails apart:

"An example of such a fake email address is “[email protected]”. All SCDF email accounts end with @scdf.gov.sg."

The SCDF has lodged a police report, and the police are conducting investigations. The SCDF advises companies who have received these fake emails to also make a police report. It added:

"In line with Whole-of-Government procurement procedures, SCDF only publishes invitations for quotations and tenders on GeBiz, the Singapore Government’s e-procurement portal.

Companies are required to submit their bids via this portal."
