National Day was a time for people in Singapore to catch a break and indulge in the festivities, before the next public holiday three months later in November.

There were several quirky incidents that surfaced online too.

With some harrowing near misses on the roads as well, due to the lengthy processions. Fortunately, there were no accidents.

Child rushes onto road

Another heart-stopping moment occurred at night on National Day, according to a video posted to Facebook page All Singapore Stuff.

From the car's dashcam footage, the driver was making their way along Pasir Ris Drive 1 at around 10:24pm on Aug. 9 when a young child ran onto the road.

Upon spotting the kid, the driver immediately slowed down.

The child then proceeded to continue running forward on the left side of the road, but veered towards the middle later on.

Not long after, a man rushed past the car, and plucks the kid off the road.

Child left the house when gate was open

In the post, netizens lambasted the parents of the child for not keeping an eye properly, with some assuming that the man giving chase was the father of the child.

The alleged full story however, was revealed in a separate post.

Someone claiming to be the child's mother shared that on that night, a handyman had been making repairs at her house, and the gate was left open.

The young boy, who she described as "special" and apparently has special needs, then dashed out of the house.

Upon realising that her child was not at home, both the mother and handyman rushed out in search of him.

Saying that she had neither mask nor shoes on, the mother searched nearby areas in vain.

Child rescued by passers-by

Unbeknownst to her, her child had run towards the road, but was thankfully rescued by a couple of passers-by.

"To the Malay couple who found him dash across through the road and came out of the car & saved him, words cannot be described how I am feeling.. I am thankful, appreciative and I dont know what to say.. I could have lost him... He has no sense of danger as he is a special child.."

In her post, the mother urged the couple to come forward so she could thank them properly.
