Air India Express flight with 191 people aboard, including 10 infants, crash lands on airport runway in Kerala, India

A deadly plane crash has occurred in India, leaving scores injured and at least two deaths.

Skidded off runway

An Air India Express flight which reportedly carried 191 people, including crew members, crash-landed on the runway of Karipur Airport in Kerala, India, on Aug. 7.

Those on board included 174 passengers, 10 infants, two pilots, and five cabin crew, according to an Air India statement as reported on Times of India.

The plane had flown in from Dubai.

According to the Hindustan Times, the plane overshot and skidded off the runway before splitting into pieces.

It then allegedly fell into a 30 feet-deep valley, but did not catch on fire.

Two people were confirmed to have died from this tragic accident, including the pilot.

Around 40 people are believed to be injured as of the time of writing.

The tragedy reportedly occurred amidst heavy rainfall in the area at around 7:40pm local time.

Videos filmed at the scene of the crash show numerous people, including authorities, milling around the site.

Jets of water can be seen being sprayed on the downed plane as well.

Rescue operations are currently underway.

Several Indian politicians including Minister of Defence, Rajnath Singh, took to Twitter to express their condolences for the casualties.
