The Workers' Party (WP) must "hit the ground running", Secretary-General Pritam Singh said.

Pritam was giving his thank you speech in the wake of GE2020's results, where the WP won two GRCs and one SMC.

He added, "We should not get over our head with the results. There's much work to do."

Retained control of its constituencies and gained a new one

The Workers' Party retained control of Aljunied GRC with 59.93 per cent, and Hougang SMC with 61.19 per cent of the respective vote shares.

It also gained control of the newly-created Sengkang GRC with 52.13 per cent of the vote share.

In thanking voters for their support, Pritam said:

"Thank you for your support, thank you for your kindness, and thank you for voting for this Workers’ Party team, in the same way you gave support to the Workers’ Party team that came before us, which included Mr Chen Show Mao and Mr Low Thia Khiang.

We will continue to endeavour for good outcomes on the ground and to represent you faithfully in Parliament. Without your support, there's very little we can do. But together, we can do a lot more for Singapore, and we have to work hard for it.

PAP opponents 'put up a good fight'

Pritam also thanked commended the PAP team contesting in Aljunied GRC for putting up "a good fight," and highlighted that it had been a "difficult contest" for the WP.

He also promised to serve voters "equally and faithfully", regardless of whether they voted for the WP or their opponents.

As per Pritam:

"And I can assure you this Workers Party team is committed to serve Singapore, to serve the voters who voted for us, and those who chose to vote for our opponents. Equally, and faithfully.

Finally, to our PAP opponents. I'd like to congratulate them for putting up a very good fight, it is a difficult contest, it was a difficult contest for us, but I’d like to thank them. The activists and their volunteers as well."

Dennis: "Humbled" by voters' support

Pritam was echoed by Dennis Tan, the WP candidate for Hougang SMC, who thanked voters in Hougang for their support, and stressed that he would work to win over voters who had not chosen him.

Tan said:

"Thank you for keeping faith with the Workers Party beyond the past 29 years. I'm truly humbled by your support. I will do my best to serve you and speak up for you in Parliament. Hougang voters who have not voted for me, you are also 'Hougangnian'. I will work hard to serve you and hope to win your support in due course.

Finally, I wish to thank my team of volunteers, which comprised of many Hougang residents who together did more than I could ever ask for in this campaign."
