The results for the 2020 general election are out: PAP 83 seats and Workers' Party 10 seats.

Narrow victory for PAP in West Coast GRC

Progress Singapore Party's (PSP) Tan Cheng Bock spoke to media in the wee hours of July 11 after narrowly losing to the People's Action Party (PAP) in West Coast GRC, winning 48.31 per cent of the total votes.

"I think we won in a way," Tan said, adding that the PAP had been denied the "massive mandate" that the incumbent was looking for.

"I don't think they got that mandate, you know," he said. "I think their percentage went down by quite a lot."

The PAP had a total average of 61.24 per cent of the national vote share from the 2020 general election, a dip from 2015 where they achieved a total vote share of 69.9 per cent.

The PAP team at West Coast GRC consists of S. Iswaran, Desmond Lee, Foo Mee Har, Rachel Ong, and Ang Wei Neng, while the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) lineup consists of Tan Cheng Bock, Jeffrey Khoo, Leong Mun Wai, Hazel Poa, and Loganathan Nadarajah.

PAP won 51.69 per cent of the votes in West Coast GRC.

Tan says he will not take NCMP seat

As the best losers from the opposition, the team helmed by the PSP secretary-general has qualified for two Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) seats.

When asked if he will be taking up one of the NCMP seat, Tan said that he will not.

"We've got so many of the younger chaps, let them have a feel," he told reporters. "I'll have a committee, and then we'll decide."
