The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 157 new cases of Covid-19 infection on July 7, 2020.

Among the confirmed cases, four are students, and one is a teacher, the Ministry of Education (MOE) revealed.

The students are from:

  • Bedok View Secondary School
  • East Spring Primary School
  • Jurong West Primary School
  • Jurong West Secondary School

The teacher is from Assumption Pathway School.

Linked to household infections

According to MOE, the four students are linked to household infections.

Before being swabbed, they were already on Home Quarantine Order (HQO), as the students had been identified as close contacts of their household members.

These students were well when they were last in school the previous week, MOE said.

Investigations are ongoing for the teacher from Assumption Pathway School.

Affected students and staff issued LOA

About 60 students and 10 staff each in Assumption Pathway School, East Spring Primary School, Jurong West Primary School and Jurong West Secondary School have been issued a 14-day Leave of Absence (LOA).

They were in contact with the confirmed cases.

The affected student from Bedok View Secondary School was last in school on June 30, and MOH has assessed the risk of infection for students and staff to be low.

Therefore, no LOA or HQO was issued.

MOE assured parents and students that while such confirmed cases is to be expected due to an extensive testing regime, isolation measures are quickly carried out to prevent transmissions.

This will also allow the rest of the school system to continue to function normally.

MOE reminds all parents, staff, and students that if a student or any adult household member is unwell, the student should not go to school.
