This year's National Day Parade (NDP) will be different from previous years, given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The NDP will be held at The Star Performing Arts Centre, rather than the Padang, with a focus on "more intimate and small-scale performances".
According to the NDP organising committee, a focal point of this year's NDP will be the "Anthem Moment", which aims to rally all Singaporeans through the National Anthem.
Public Warning System will be sounded to rally Singaporeans
The National Anthem will be played at the Padang on August 9 at approximately 10.30am, with flag-raising ceremonies taking place across the island.
Various government agencies, with the support from the NDP2020 Executive Committee (EXCO), will conduct concurrent flag-raising ceremonies at eight locations across the island, representing key national sectors.
The eight locations are the Padang, Changi Airport, Enabling Village, Kampung Admiralty, Lifelong Learning Institute @ Paya Lebar, National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), North Vista Secondary School and NTUC FairPrice Hub @ Joo Koon.
The Public Warning System will be sounded to rally Singaporeans to participate in the Anthem Moment from their homes, and the whole process will be broadcast live over TV and radio channels.
Singaporeans are encouraged to tune in to the live broadcast from their homes and record themselves participating in the Anthem Moment.
Those who do so can submit their videos to the NDP organising committee, for a chance to be featured in the NDP evening broadcast.
The live broadcast of the morning segment will begin at 10.20am on Aug. 9 on MediaCorp free-to-air TV channels and the NDPeeps YouTube channel, following Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's National Day Message, which will be telecast earlier in the morning.
