More than 80 hotels in Singapore have been approved for staycations and are open for business.

The bulk re-opening was confirmed by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on Tuesday, July 21.

This is in time for the ongoing week-long school holiday and the two upcoming long weekends: July 31 for Hari Raya Haji and Aug. 9 for National Day.

Since July 3, hotels could apply for approval to provide accommodation to guests for the purposes of leisure.

More than 100 hotels have done so, said STB on Tuesday.

These hotels must adhere to stringent safe management practices to prevent the community spread of Covid-19.

These include reducing capacity and intermingling of guests, who are required to wear a mask within the premises, except when they are in selected areas such as their own room, or engaging in certain activities, such as eating.

Hotels are also throwing in free add-ons that are not usually on offer to entice bookings.

These include complimentary cocktails, breakfast and late check-out.
