Details regarding the new Sengkang town council have not been firmed up yet.

Previously, on July 12, the Workers' Party team had expressed their preference for a standalone town council to be created following the team's victory in the recent general election.

They also clarified that they have reached out to both Pasir Ris-Punggol and Ang Mo Kio Town Councils regarding the handover.

On July 19, Member of Parliament-elect for Sengkang GRC He Ting Ru provided an update on town council matters.

Timeline of handover so far

The Sengkang MPs-elect have informed the Ministry of National Development that they intend to run Sengkang TC on its own without merging it with any other constituency, He wrote.

She also provided details regarding the timeline of what has happened so far:

  • On July 15, they requested for copies of the contracts for Managing Agent services, and the use of TC management software to be provided to them.
  • PRPTC, whom they understand to be coordinating the handover with AMKTC, suggested a virtual meeting on July 17.
  • After the July 17 meeting, they repeated their request for copies of agreements for MA services and TC management software.
  • They also hope to arrange a physical meeting in the coming week to be briefed on operational matters relating to both TCs.

She added that she will be the Chair of the new town council.

Sengkang residents have been calling AHTC

The Sengkang GRC team leader also clarified that Sengkang residents can continue to report estate matters to their existing town councils.

"We understand that some Sengkang residents have been calling the Aljunied-Hougang TC to report estate matters," she said.

In her post, she explained that the jurisdiction to manage HDB estates still resides in the two current TCs: Anchorvale is still managed by AMKTC, and Punggol East and Sengkang Central by PRPTC.

She also said that she will continue to provide more updates on their progress in the coming weeks.
