On July 5, the two teams contesting in Sengkang GRC bumped into each other at Rivervale Plaza.

According to a video submitted by a Mothership reader, both the People's Action Party (PAP) and Workers' Party (WP) teams crossed paths at around 9:50am.

The PAP team contesting in Sengkang, helmed by Minister Ng Chee Meng, also consists of Lam Pin Min, Amrin Amin, and Raymond Lye.

The WP team sees newcomers Jamus Lim, Raeesah Khan and Louis Chua, with familiar face He Ting Ru.

When they met, Lim waved to Ng, who seemed pleasantly surprised by the encounter.

Ng was heard speaking to Lim in Mandarin, asking him: "Have you eaten?"

Lim said, "not yet", and added that he had arrived at 7:30am.

Ng then turned to exchange greetings with other WP members, including Chua and He, before leaving.

PAP & WP in Sengkang

Sengkang GRC is a new constituency made up of the former Sengkang West and Punggol East, as well as a portion of Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.

Ng was the former MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, while Lam was the former MP for Sengkang West. Amrin was previously from Sembawang GRC. Lye chairs the Punggol East Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC).

While delivering a thank you speech at St Anthony's Canossian School, the nomination centre for Sengkang GRC, Ng said that this is a "very important election" because Singapore is facing an unprecedented crisis.

He asked for the support of Sengkang residents, saying: "We want to walk with you, we want to engage you so that we can hear you, and build a Sengkang town that is the most liveable place for all of us."

Lim, during his speech, said that listening to residents' concerns over the past few years have "informed (their) ideas, plans and policies".

He said: "We hope to have the opportunity to share with you our aspirations and vision for a thriving happy and inclusive society for Sengkang, as well as Singapore."
