The sample count for Potong Pasir SMC has been released.
According to the Elections Department (ELD), Sitoh Yih Pin of the People's Action Party (PAP) is leading with 61 per cent.
Potong Pasir has a total of 18,551 registered voters.
The ELD has emphasised that the sample count is not the final result.
There is a margin of error of +/- four per cent. According to ELD:
"As this is a sample count, the election result could be different. Counting is still in progress. The public should wait for the announcement of the election result by the Returning Officer, Mr Tan Meng Dui, which will be broadcast ‘live’ on television."
What is the sample count?
The sample count provides an indication of the results in each constituency, which are obtained by:
- Picking a random bundle of 100 ballot papers from each polling station.
- Counting the 100 votes, with candidates and counting agents present.
- Adding up the votes for each candidate or GRC team, giving more weightage to the bundles from polling stations where more votes were cast.
The final tally will be released later.
