PAP Women MPs dismayed by 'disproportionate' sentencing of NUS student who strangled ex-girlfriend, MHA looking into matter

The student strangled his ex-girlfriend, who had refused to get back together with him.

Yin Zi Qin, a 23-year-old dental student from the National University of Singapore, was recently sentenced to 12 days of detention.

He was also subjected to a day reporting order for five months with counselling, and must complete 80 hours of community service over a year.

Yin had strangled his ex-girlfriend who refused to get back together with him, and pressed his thumb firmly against her left eye until it bled.

The victim passed out from the incident.
