Ong Ye Kung to be new Transport Minister, taking over Khaw Boon Wan

He will leave the Ministry of Education.

In a press conference on July 25, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced its new slate of cabinet ministers for the upcoming term.

New Minister for Transport

In the new term, Ong Ye Kung will be appointed as the Minister for Transport.

He will relinquish his appointment as Minister for Education, after serving a term since 2015.

Ong has been in Parliament since 2015 after he contested and won as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate in Sembawang GRC.

Taking over Khaw Boon Wan

He is taking over the ministerial role from Khaw Boon Wan, who announced his retirement from politics on June 26, 2020.

Khaw has served as the Transport Minister since 2015 after his predecessor Lui Tuck Yew left.

He has been in public service for 42 years and in Parliament for 19 years.

Since his retirement, Ong has also taken over Khaw's role as the anchor Minister and his ward in Sembawang GRC, which the PAP won 67.29 per cent of the vote in the recent general election.
