Workers' Party (WP) Nicole Seah has made a final call on her Facebook page for Singaporeans to vote wisely come Polling Day on July 10.
"Curveball" on Nomination Day
In her post, Seah reflects on the nine-day campaign period and the unexpected fielding of Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat to East Coast GRC on Nomination Day.
She described it as a "curveball thrown our way 15 minutes before closing", and said she had to quickly recollect her thoughts, reevaluate the situation and adapt by rewriting her speech in light of the new circumstances.
Despite the surprise, she said that she the WP team would not back down:
"It was in that very moment that we realised two things. Number one - We stand firm and do not back down in the face of adversity. Number two - A warrior does not go into battle only when there is absolute chance of winning. We go into battle to do the right thing, and to do right by the people who matter."
Seah shared the gruelling schedule the team had stuck to throughout the campaign — the walkabouts and house visits night and day.
This was in light of the limitations brought about due to Covid-19.
"East Coast GRC voters, I hope we have done right by you. In the short campaign, we have walked early mornings into late nights, reaching as many of you as we could. We did our best using the limited channels at our disposal to reflect your hopes, dreams and fears."
Ultimately, she said she hoped that WP has run a "clean political campaign" and espoused the values Singaporeans would want for a "progressive" Singapore.
Even though voting is a "deeply personal choice", Seah added that she would respect everyone's decision in spite of the outcome, and would be grateful of voters' support.
She ended off her post by urging Singaporeans to make their vote count on July 10.
