In a press conference on Jul. 25, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the new Cabinet after GE 2020, including seven new political office-holders.
The newly-announced officeholders include six of the People's Action Party's new first-time MPs: Tan See Leng, Gan Siow Huang, Alvin Tan, Desmond Tan, Tan Kiat How, and Eric Chua.
Here are the posts that they will be holding:
Tan See Leng, MP-elect for Marine Parade in Marine Parade GRC, will be appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry.
Gan Siow Huang, MP-elect for Marymount SMC, will be appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Manpower.
Alvin Tan, MP-elect for Moulmein-Cairnhill in Tanjong Pagar GRC, will be appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, with effect from Sep. 1.
Desmond Tan, MP-elect for Pasir Ris Central in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, will be appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment.
Tan Kiat How, MP-elect for Kampong Chai Chee in East Coast GRC, will be appointed Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of National Development. He will also be Chairman of REACH.
Eric Chua, MP-elect for Queenstown in Tanjong Pagar GRC, will be appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
Rahayu Mahzam, MP-elect for Bukit Batok East in Jurong GRC, will be appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, with effect from Sep. 1. She joined the PAP in 2015 as part of the PAP team in Jurong GRC.
Two new PAP MP-elects appointed as mayors
In addition to the seven new political officeholders, there are two new mayors.
Alex Yam will be appointed Mayor for North West District, while Mohd Fahmi Aliman will be appointed Mayor for South West East District.
