Nathan Hartono has clarified that he is Singaporean after his National Day song came in for criticism.
In a post on Facebook, Hartono humorously presented some comments on social media that questioned why a "foreigner" was singing the NDP song.
"Why is a Indonesian singing the NDP song... does Singapore not have any singing talent as well? (sic)," read one. However, Hartono clarified in the accompanying description that he is a first-generation Singaporean.
"I was born as a Permanent Resident, and raised here by parents who immigrated to this country. After serving 2 years of National Service, I was finally able to get a Singaporean citizenship."
The singer added that he had "never known any other place as home".
He also jokingly uploaded a teary-eyed photo, saying that these comments helped to "keep (his) ego in check".
Taking it in his stride.
