A man named Wang Xi had filed a lawsuit against Marina Bay Sands in 2019 to recover S$9.1 million, Bloomberg reported.

He said the money was sent to other casino patrons in 2015 without his approval. The Singapore Police Force had also been involved in the investigation.

MBS settles lawsuit

According to Bloomberg, MBS casino has agreed to settle the lawsuit brought by Wang. MBS will agree to his demand for a payment of S$9.1 million.

Wang will also be let back into the casino so long as he adheres to its policies.

As part of the settlement, there is a "non-admission" of liability from both sides. The settlement is said to end the dispute that had "helped trigger probes" of the MBS casino, reported Bloomberg.

Investigations

Singapore's Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino was investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice after it was found to have allegedly breached anti-money laundering regulations, reported Bloomberg on June 4.

During the investigation, U.S. officials scrutinised the way MBS handled the accounts of top gamblers at the casino.

In January 2020, a grand jury subpoena was reportedly issued to a former compliance chief at MBS.

MBS is part of American billionaire Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

The U.S. Justice Department has looked into Las Vegas Sands' activities in the past which the latter has ended up paying millions to resolve, Bloomberg reported.
