Jamus Lim elected to Economic Society of Singapore's Council

Another council to sit on.

Jamus Lim, the new Member of Parliament (MP) from the Workers' Party (WP), was announced as one of the new elected members of the Economic Society of Singapore's (ESS) 64th council, at the society's annual general meeting on July 22.

The 44-year-old economist is an associate professor at the Essec Business School, having previously worked at the World Bank for seven years.

Besides Lim, five other members were also elected to the 36-member council, including Kent Choi, a team leader at investment bank Credit Suisse, Christina Soh, professor and Dean of Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Satoru Takahashi, a professor and head of the National University of Singapore's economics department, Tan Swee Liang, an associate professor at Singapore Management University, and Franky Tanudjojo, managing director and head of international banking at Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore).

The ESS's 64th council will be led by its current president Euston Quah, professor and head of Economics at NTU.

The ESS was founded in 1956, and has corporate members including major banks in Singapore, investment houses and government ministries.

It is the second oldest society of economists, business, and finance professionals in Singapore.

The non-profit organisation brings together economists and other professionals to discuss issues involving the economies of Singapore and in the region, and aims to raise public awareness on economic issues and to stimulate public interest in economics.

Its honorary fellows include Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, and former prime minister Goh Chok Tong.
