The Singapore police have arrested an Indonesian woman suspected of abandoning her newborn baby.

Woman believed to be child's mother

Police said they were alerted to a baby boy found abandoned inside a recycling bin along Tai Keng Gardens on July 27, at around 7:47pm.

Through ground investigations and the use of images from CCTV footage provided by residents, police managed to identify the 29-year-old Indonesian woman who abandoned the baby.

The woman is believed to be the mother of the child, and was arrested on July 29.

Police are currently working on identifying the baby's father.

The woman will be charged in court on July 30 with exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years old.

If convicted, she could be jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.

Residents discovered baby in bin

A resident told Mothership on July 28 that a baby was initially found in a blue recycling bin with the lid closed.

Residents found the baby when it let out a faint whimpering sound inside the bin.

The baby had been placed in a paper shopping bag, with a white cloth on his face.

Paramedics attended to the baby at scene. There were no visible injuries on the baby and his condition was stable.

The baby was subsequently conveyed to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
