A woman in Malaysia has assembled her own kitchen island using disparate IKEA furniture slapped together -- and spending only RM300 or S$97.50 in the process.

She shared her DIY creation on Twitter on July 9 to the applause of everyone who are sick and tired of paying through their noses for furniture.

The Twitter user @yatt_azml explained what she had to do to assemble the contraption that matches the colour scheme of her kitchen.

The kitchen island is essentially made up of two major parts and some metal stands.

The major parts are a wooden chopping board to serve as countertop, and a shelf as a stand or base.

They can also be bought from the Singapore IKEA stores at their listed prices, which are about the same as the Malaysia prices.

The chopping board from IKEA is made of bamboo.

The other two parts can be attached with a bit of improvisation.

The additional hardware needed to hold the table together is the L-shaped bracket to keep the countertop in place to the shelf.

One piece of advice that @yatt_azml gave is to apply wood oil to the chopping board once every two weeks or a month to extend its lifespan.
