Serious business.

The Internet is serious business.

A man may place wagers in a moment of frivolity, but when the time comes to pay the piper, the community will make sure he keeps his word.

That's what happened to HardwareZone Forum user waterdestiny.

A serious wager

On July 8, he posted a thread titled "If PAP lose a single GRC, moi will chop and post photo of moi chopped kkj."

Translated, this meant that if the People's Action Party (PAP) were to lose a single Group Representation Constituency during the recent general election, he would sever his male appendage from his body.

What's more, he would also take a photo of his detached genitals and share that pictorial evidence with the rest of the forum.

He added that if he went back on his words, the moderators were welcome to ban him from the forum.

This may not sound quite as serious as castration, but as a member since 2011 and with over 12,000 posts, it was still a significant offer.

Presumably, waterdestiny was supremely confident of the PAP's chances of winning every single GRC in the election.

On Polling Day, the sample count for Sengkang was released, which showed the Workers' Party team with a slight lead over the PAP.

This was followed by the sample count for Aljunied, which showed the WP with an even bigger lead.

This led to other users calling for the terms to be fulfilled:

Although one user spotted a loophole that might have saved waterdestiny's gonads:

And others offered sage advice:

When the results rolled in, the PAP had indeed "lost" Sengkang and Aljunied to the Workers' Party.

He could have defended himself by saying that Sengkang is a new GRC, so it can't be lost, and that Aljunied was under the WP, so it wasn't a loss.

However, waterdestiny never did reply in the thread again, much less chop off anything and post a photo on the forum.

So the moderators acceded to justice and banned him.

Because some things are serious business.
