A 64-year-old Singaporean man will be charged in court on Wednesday (July 29) for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty.

Altercation between NEA officers and the man

The police received a call for assistance regarding an altercation between two National Environment Agency (NEA) enforcement officers and another man on April 5, 2020.

The incident took place at Block 26 Telok Blangah Crescent.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two NEA officers had spotted the man smoking at a non-designated smoking table in a coffeeshop at Blk 12 Telok Blangah Crescent and asked for his particulars.

The man did not cooperate with the officers and ran away.

The officers gave chase. When one of the officers caught up with him, the man shoved his arm against the officer and used his hand to grab the officer’s neck. The man also hurled vulgarities at the officer.

The man was subsequently arrested.
