On the last night of campaigning for the 2020 General Election (GE), Heng Swee Keat was welcomed by residents during a walkabout at East Coast GRC.

The walkabout took place at the Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre, and lasted for about half an hour.

The first assistant secretary-general of the People's Action Party (PAP) was accompanied by the rest of his team, which includes Maliki Osman, Jessica Tan, Cheryl Chan, and new candidate Tan Kiat How.

Heng exchanged greetings and pleasantries with residents who were having dinner, queuing up to buy food, or simply there to see him.

Residents were mostly pleased to see him, smiling as they received campaign flyers from him, with some stopping to have longer exchanges with him.

Thumbs-up in place of fist bumps

In light of Covid-19 safety measures, while some residents asked for fist bumps with Heng, he declined and offered them thumbs-up instead.

In response to residents who asked how he is doing health-wise, Heng said he is doing "good", but joked that he will do even better if the residents voted for him.

Heng also asked diners what meals they were having, such as the following residents who replied they were having ma la xiang guo.

A few residents expressed their support for Heng too.

Swamped by requests for photos

As he made his way through the hawker centre, Heng was swamped with photo requests too.

Here are all the times we spotted him taking photos with residents, while standing one metre away from them due to safe distancing measures:

Some parents even asked their children to go forward and take a picture together with him.

Heng engaged the younger residents too, telling a kid he liked the "Star Wars" cap he was wearing.

Signed autographs for residents

Heng received a number of autograph requests as well, which he acceded to:
