Hong Kong man, 23, arrested for trafficking S$1.4 million worth of cocaine in durian seeds

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Jul. 21 in Hong Kong on suspicion of "trafficking in dangerous drugs".

The suspected drug smuggling was discovered by the Police Narcotics Department when they found suspected cocaine concealed inside of durian seeds, reported The Standard.

According to The Standard, the man was intercepted in Tin Sam Tsuen in Sha Tin on Tuesday (Jul. 21).

At the time, he was pushing a trolley holding five styrofoam boxes and one rice bag. Inside were 100 lunch boxes, which contained the durian seeds in which the suspected cocaine was concealed.

According to Hong Kong International Business Channel, when police searched the man's car, they found 100 containers of durian flesh.

Police were able to find 8.2 kilograms of cocaine, worth about HK$8 million (S$1.4 million), hidden in the seeds.

Hong Kong International Business Channel reported that the drugs are believed to have came from Southeast Asia.

The man appeared in the Sha Tin Magistrates' Courts on Thursday (Jul. 23). His case was adjourned until Oct. 5 for the government laboratory report, and the man was remanded in custody.
