A man was caught on video scolding a Daiso employee in City Square Mall for speaking to him in Mandarin.

The bizarre incident took place on July 12, according to a Facebook post by the person who witnessed the incident and recorded it.

The video showed the irate man speaking loudly at two Daiso staff.

Based on what the man was saying, he was agitated as he was apparently asked by one of the Daiso employees in Mandarin for his number, as she was apparently verifying that customers had used the SafeEntry login.

This caused the man to be upset.

The man was accompanied by a woman and a child, and the video showed him raising his voice at two employees, while gesticulating.

What the man said

He could be heard saying: "What kind of attitude is that?"

"I'm Chinese, but what is mean 'ni de hao' ('your number')? You also don't understand? I also don't understand."

"Speak English, okay?" he added, as another employee attending to him appeared apologietic.

The man also said: "She got attitude problem, I tell you.".

Shouted at person recording

According to the person who recorded the scene, the man also shouted at him after noticing that he was capturing the confrontation on video.

The irate man also asked why a video of him was being taken and told the person recording the scene to "mind own business".

The person who was recording told Mothership.sg that he replied to the man saying "it was because he was bullying the employee".

The irate man then said the person who was recording should wear a cape if he wants to be a hero.

The man then walked into Daiso after the brief exchange.

In an update to the post, the person who put up the post wrote:

If you are the guy in the video, I will be happy to take down the post on one condition. Apologise to the safeentry lady and let her know it wasn't right that you shouted or raise your voice at her. Apologise to the manager for creating an unnecessary fuss and state that you didn't mean it when you implied that she be fired/shouldn't be hired.
