The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has put out a statement in response to this incident on Facebook on July 23 afternoon.
MOM stated that the incident happened at the PPT Lodge 1B dormitory at Seletar North Link yesterday (July 22).
Investigations showed that the worker had a dispute with his employer over a return to his home country.
The worker had bought his own ticket and had become agitated when his employer was not facilitative of his return, MOM stated.
MOM added that the block that the worker was staying was already cleared of Covid-19 on July 4.
"Investigations revealed that the worker purchased a flight ticket to his home country on his own and became agitated when his employer was not facilitative of his return.
He is staying in a block that was already cleared on 4 July and could have discussed with his employer if he wanted to leave. However, both parties did not discuss this leading to a dispute."
FAST team helped resolve the matter
When the incident happened, the dormitory operator and the Forward Assurance and Support team on site helped to calm the worker down and resolve the issue together with the employer.
The employer then complied and helped facilitate the worker's return.
The worker is leaving Singapore today (July 23).
