A 65-year-old SBS driver has been jailed after causing a severe collision that resulted in injuries to the passengers, Shinmin Daily News reported.
A total 34 people were injured, including a woman who suffered a miscarriage and two other elderly passengers who sustained spinal fractures.
The incident happened on the morning of May 11, 2018, along Jalan Jurong Kechil near Bukit Batok.
Although the woman herself had sustained relatively light injuries and her abdomen was not physically affected, a doctor believed that the stress from the incident resulted in the miscarriage.
The elderly passengers, who are 64 and 89 years old, were not left with permanent injuries, according to Lianhe Wanbao.
Did not brake in time
The Chinese daily reported that the SBS driver did not manage to brake in time at the bus stop, resulting in a violent collision with a SMRT bus in front.
Damage to both buses was extensive.
Online media showed that the SBS bus had mounted the kerb, with its windshield was almost completely destroyed.

A 65-year-old SBS driver was faced with two charges from the incident: reckless driving leading to hurt, and reckless driving leading to grievous hurt.
On July 22, 2020, the driver was convicted and sentenced to four weeks' jail and disqualified from driving all vehicles for three years.
He had started work with SBS just three months before the incident, and has been dismissed from the company.
Wanbao said that he had driven for more than 20 years without accident, and will live with lifelong guilt over the case.
