A Pulau Ubin bicycle rental shop has closed down, having recently "shut its doors for the final time", a Facebook post on July 26 said.

The post was made by Nor Syazwan Bin Abdul Majid, or Wan, a Singaporean who writes about Pulau Ubin on his Facebook page, Wan's Ubin Journal.

Bicycle rental services helped promote "island's culture and heritage"

Wan thanked the operator, Mr Sum, for "providing visitors with years of bicycle rental services".

Wan recognised the service as having played a part in "promoting our island's culture and heritage".

"It is unclear as to why the owner decided to do this", Wan added.

What happens next?

Visitors to Pulau Ubin will still be able to rent bicycles though.

According to Wan, there are four other bicycle rental stalls still operating on Pulau Ubin.

As for House 31, Wan said that it would be returned to the state.

All land on Pulau Ubin is state-owned, including the plot closest to the jetty where House 31 sits:
