An Afghan girl, aged between 14 and 16, has shot dead two Taliban militants with an AK-47 and wounded several others after they killed her parents, the BBC reported.

According to Gulf News, the incident happened last week, within the Afghan province of Ghor.

Parents were killed outside their home

The girl's father was a village chief who had been singled out as a target for his support of the government, the local police chief, Habiburahman Malekzada, said according to AFP.

Malekzasa added that the militants had dragged him out of the house.

The village chief was then killed together with his wife outside their home when she resisted.

Girl shot militants with family-owned AK-47

This led to their daughter, who was inside the house, to pick up the family-owned AK-47 and shoot dead the two militants who had killed her parents.

The teen also wounded others.

The BBC highlighted that several more militants returned to attack the house, but were subsequently repelled by villagers and pro-government militia.

Both the girl and her younger brother have since been taken to a safer place by security officials.

A photo of the girl holding the gun has since gone viral on social media with many praising her for her actions.

Both media outlets reported that despite peace negotiations, attacks by the Taliban have continued, with villagers who are suspected of being informers for the government or security authorities regularly targeted.
