Man, 52, arrested for allegedly slapping other man over parking lot issues near NEX shopping mall

He was arrested three days after a police report was made.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested for public nuisance and voluntarily causing hurt, according to a media release on June 11.

The police were alerted to a case where the 52-year-old man was unhappy with another man over parking lot issues on June 7.

The 52-year-old had allegedly slapped the other party several times on his face at the open space parking area near NEX shopping mall the day before at about 5pm.

Through enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on June 10 2020.

Investigations are ongoing.

Possible sentences

The offence of public nuisance under Section 290 of the Penal Code carries a fine of up to S$2,000.

If the act is deemed to be able to cause, with reasonable probability, any common injury, danger or annoyance to the public, or to the people in general who dwell or occupy property in the vicinity, the offence will carry an imprisonment term of up to three months, or a fine of up to S$2,000, or both.

The offence of voluntary causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, or with fine of up to S$5,000 or both.
