Education minister Ong Ye Kung said his ministry is happy to learn that four students and one school staff who tested positive for Covid-19 have recovered.

In a Facebook post on June 11 evening, Ong wrote that all five have tested negative twice, and can be discharged from hospital.

Most of them will be returning to school next week, he added.

One student has even joined his classmates for an online lesson on Thursday morning.

All five infected hail form different schools.

Ong said all five different schools have been keeping in close contact with the affected students and staff to offer support.

He also reassured the four students who have been placed on Leave of Absence or Home Quarantine Order that the schools will support them with online lessons and consultations, and they should not be worried about falling behind.

Ong also wrote that this latest spate of infections has taught stakeholders about living with Covid-19: "We are learning from each episode, and schools, students and parents must all continue to stay vigilant and socially responsible as we learn to live with Covid-19."

Background

The Ministry of Education has since revealed that the cases were likely infected during the circuit breaker period.

The five cases were announced on Sunday, June 7.

Ong said MOE would consider closing individual schools if Covid-19 clusters are discovered.

Students returned to class on June 8.

Ong said the attendance of returning students were around 95 per cent to 98 per cent.
