Opposition stalwart Nicole Seah, 33, was introduced as a Workers' Party (WP) candidate on June 25, in a press conference.

Seah was one of the star candidates for the National Solidarity Party (NSP) in 2011, but sat out during the 2015 election.

Timing is a factor, as Seah explained that she is "having a stable career right now", with her personal life in a "very good state" going into the upcoming general election.

She acknowledged that her decision to contest in elections this year would likely result in increased scrutiny for her, but said that she was doing it "for the party", as well as "for my daughter", who is a part of the next generation of Singaporeans.

Seah added that she believed in the party and its leadership.

She said:

"I do recognise that coming back out will also mean increased scrutiny. But I do it for the party, because I believe in the leadership, and I believe in a vision, and I do it for my daughter, because she is the next generation of Singaporeans, and I want to leave behind a legacy for her where she would feel comfortable regardless of her political inclinations, or the kinds of views that she's expressing."

Explaining her role in GE2015, Seah said that she had been an observer, who supported fellow candidate Yee Jenn Jong, who will also contest in this year's election.

In 2015, Seah said, the "ground sentiment" was warm, although it did not translate to direct votes.

This made her recognise that "every single vote counts", and said that voters "cannot leave it to other people to vote in the WP".

Seah had previously appeared in a teaser video clip released by the WP soon after the elections were called.
