Following the announcement of entering Phase 2 on June 19, the National Environment Agency (NEA) has released safe management measures that will be implemented in hawker centres and wet markets.

'Odd-even' NRIC system continues at 4 popular wet markets

According to NEA, there is no change to the current safe management measures at markets.

That means the following four wet markets with high human traffic will continue to limit the number of patrons with the "odd-even" NRIC or FIN number system.

The four popular wet markets are:

  1. Geylang Serai Market
  2. Block 104/105 Yishun Ring Road (Chong Pang Market)
  3. Block 20/21 Marsiling Lane
  4. Block 505 Jurong West Street 52

This system was implemented two months ago, on April 22.

Those with an even last digit (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) can only visit these markets on the even dates of the month.

Those with an odd last digit (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) can only visit these markets on the odd dates of the month.

Patrons will have to produce appropriate forms of identification at the entry points of these markets for verification.

Those who are unable to do so will be denied entry.

Patrons to all 83 markets managed by NEA and NEA-appointed operators will also have to keep a safe distance from one another by standing within the boxes marked on the floor in the markets.

Seats at hawker centre will be marked out

NEA also stated that seats at hawker centres will be marked out, even though the hawker centres are now open to dine-ins.

The seats will be marked out for dining groups of different sizes, ranging from one person to a group of five.

Some seats or tables will be marked out to ensure one-metre safe distancing between diners of different groups. Patrons can only remove their face masks to eat and drink.

NEA also stated in the release that the agency will work with town councils and contractors to step up cleaning at all markets and hawker centres.

Automated hand sanitiser dispensers will also be installed for use. Patrons are also reminded to check-in and -out on SafeEntry when they visit markets and hawker centres.
