Mahathir Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia has launched a social media campaign, in apparent protest against current Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
On June 17, he changed the profile picture of his Facebook page.
It now features the logo of the political party Bersatu. But with one difference.
The photo is in black and white, instead of its usual colours of red and white. You can see it below:
Mahathir's allies Mukhriz Mahathir (his son) and Amiruddin Hamzah also changed their Facebook profile pics, according to The Star Online. The campaign was launched on the night of June 16. The Star added:"Bersatu has been embroiled in a civil war following Muhyiddin’s decision to work with Barisan Nasional, PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak as well as Sabah's PBS and STAR to form the Perikatan Nasional government, which is opposed by Dr Mahathir."
Mahathir's membership of Bersatu is unclear, as the party recently decided to expel him and a few others, including Mukhriz.
But Mahathir later turned up at the party office, challenging others to come and sack him face-to-face.
In a joint statement on June 2, Mahathir insisted that he remained a member of the party, as the reason given for the terminations were not mentioned in the party constitution, according to Malay Mail.
On June 12, he published a blogpost that sarcastically mooted the idea of forming yet another political party, named "Apa Aku Dapat" (What will I get).
According to Malaysiakini, this seemingly referring to allegations that the current Perikatan Nasional ruling coalition was offering positions to various Members of Parliament to shore up their support.
