The sole candidate from the People's Power Party (PPP), Goh Meng Seng, will be contesting MacPherson SMC for the 2020 General Election.
He will be going head to head against the incumbent People's Action Party (PAP) candidate, Tin Pei Ling, who has represented MacPherson SMC since GE2015.
Tin spoke about the upgrading projects conducted in her ward
Tin, 36, who won a three-cornered fight in MacPherson SMC with the Workers' Party (WP) and the National Solidarity Party (NSP) in 2015, with 65.6 per cent of the vote, said that she would do her "utmost" to defend her seat, according to CNA.
"We've pushed for a lot of upgrading programmes, so that for our residents, whether they're staying at home, whether it's moving around in MacPherson and the community, it is safer and much more accessible," said Tin.
She said that the election is about "who has the best ability" to help the people during this difficult time, and implored MacPherson residents to let her have the opportunity to serve them.
Goh wishes to represent the interests of older voters
On the other hand, Goh, 50, appealed to MacPherson voters by saying that he can represent their interests in Parliament.
"MacPherson voters, you can get all you want from PAP and the People's Association (PA). But you must remember who can represent you, your interest in CPF, HDB and healthcare policies in the debate," he said.
He also questioned his opponent's ability to criticise her own party's policies.
"How can Ms Tin raise all these problems (in Parliament)? She is wearing white. The fact is, she cannot criticise such policies," he said, referring to the PAP.
