The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) retrieved the body of a 22-year-old male from Lower Peirce Reservoir, Lianhe Zaobao reports.

The incident occurred on Friday, June 5, in the early morning.

A couple had been exercising in the area when they noticed some personal belongings on the bridge, including a shirt, a black face mask, a mobile phone, a wallet, and a pair of slippers.

Sensing something amiss, they called the police.

An anonymous reader told Lianhe Wanbao that four police cars and two SCDF vehicles were witnessed at the scene.

When Wanbao visited the scene, police had already cordoned off the area, prohibiting the public from getting near it.

Another passer-by who was present at around 8am said he was informed by the police to stay away.

At that time, however, the passer-by had heard that the body was not yet found.

In response to queries by the Chinese daily, SCDF said that they mobilised the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) upon receiving the alert.

Apart from the DART rescuers, SCDF personnel also activated the Remote-Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) to aid in their search.

The team managed to retrieve the body at close to 12pm, and the victim was declared dead on the spot.
