Over this weekend, party candidates have been out in full force in various constituencies.
In Hougang SMC, Workers' Party's (WP) Hougang SMC candidate Dennis Tan was seen on a walkabout on June 27 and 28 with Hougang MP Png Eng Huat.
On Sunday (June 28), however, another familiar face was spotted in Hougang – Low Thia Khiang.
Low was Hougang's MP from 1991 to 2011, and is a well-known face in the area.
He joined Png and Tan to greet and chat with residents this morning.
WP chief Pritam Singh had announced in a press conference earlier this week that Dennis Tan would be running in Hougang SMC this year. Pritam had also announced that Png and Low would be stepping down and would not contest this election.
In a Hougang SMC Facebook post, they said that the team expresses their gratitude to the "trust and support that Hougang residents have given them" for the past 30 years.
"Hougang will always be a part of Mr Png and Mr Low," they said.
This is Hougang SMC's Facebook post:
In a Facebook post, Tan said that he knows he has "more to learn". However, he also said that he stands "on the shoulders of giants"."Mr Low and Mr Png, thank you for walking with me. I will take it from here." He said.
Hougang is the longest-held opposition ward in Singapore.Tan previously contested Fengshan SMC in GE2015 and secured 42.5 per cent of votes.
Fengshan SMC was absorbed into East Coast GRC with the release of the EBRC report earlier this year.
Since then, he has been volunteering at Hougang, where he has been assisting Png with meet-the-people sessions and attending constituency events.
