41-year-old Chinese national is 25th Covid-19 death in S'pore

The Chinese national died of massive pulmonary thromboembolism following SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 344 new cases of Covid-19 infection as of 12pm on Saturday, Jun. 6, 2020.

This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 37,527, with the majority of cases continuing to be Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

350 more patients were discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

Death of Case 11714

Case 11714, a 41-year-old male Chinese national, passed away on June 4. He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on Apr. 22.

He had recovered from the infection, and was discharged on May 17.

He collapsed on June 4 and the coroner has certified that the cause of death was massive pulmonary thromboembolism (blockage of an artery in the lung) following SARS-CoV-2 infection.

3 Singaporeans and PRs

337 of the new cases are Work Permit holders residing in dormitories.

MOH announced that among the new cases reported today, three are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents.

Amongst the three Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, one (Case 37304) is a family member of a previously confirmed case, and had already been quarantined earlier.

Another (Case 37553) is a cleaner at the preschool section of an international school, and was tested as part of the ministry's proactive screening of preschool staff. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing for the remaining case (Case 37515).

Four are work pass holders, and of these, three (Cases 37225, 37425 and 37426) were tested as part of MOH's efforts to screen workers in essential services.

One (Case 37514) was tested as part of MOH's screening of migrant workers deployed at public healthcare institutions. This case had been doing building maintenance works at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and had not interacted with hospital staff or patients.

There were no new imported cases today.

Of the new cases, 98 per cent are linked to known clusters, while the remaining 2 per cent are pending contact tracing.

Two new clusters were announced today.

  • Three of the newly confirmed cases are linked to one previous case to form a new cluster at a dormitory at Beyond Tuas South Boulevard.
  • Six of the newly confirmed cases are linked to one previous case to form a new cluster at a dormitory at 10 Kwong Min Road.

The cluster at the construction site at 15 Serangoon North Avenue 1 has also been closed after no new Covid-19 infections were reported for the past two incubation periods (28 days).

Summary of confirmed cases

In all, 24,559 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

Of the 308 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving.

Four are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

12,635 cases who have mild symptoms or who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

25 have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection.

Separately, nine individuals found to be have Covid-19 infection have died of causes unlinked to the virus, most recently a 50-year-old Thai national and a 31-year-old Indian national whose deaths were announced on May 12.

In the past week, between May 30 to June 5, MOH has uncovered links for seven previously unlinked cases.
