The mask is made of three layers -- a mesh layer, a filter, and an Airism fabric layer.

It is also selling like hotcakes in Japan.

Here are some of the scenes that greeted Uniqlo staff on the opening day of sales.

A bit of a rush to say the least.

And all this despite the company limiting purchases to one pack per size per person.

According to Japan Times, some customers stood in the rain, and the website was "inundated" to the point that they had to display an apology.

The face masks are sold in packs of three for 990 yen (S$12.80).

The company plans to manufacture 500,000 packs per week.

According to Kyodo News, they will only be available at Uniqlo outlets in Japan at the moment, but the company has plans to sell the masks at Uniqlo stores overseas as well.
