Three huskies, one female and two males, are being put up for adoption in Singapore, a Facebook post by Chained Dog Awareness in Singapore (CDAS) on June 13 revealed.

The three dogs, the post said, should be rehomed together.

But if that option is not possible, a pair comprising the older male and female should be adopted together.

The post also provided a description of the dogs' temperament:

Ah Mei: Six years old, female, plays peacemaker between the other two dogs.

Ah Bao: Six years old, male, can be vocal and bossy.

Ah Fu: 10 years old, male, has weak legs and is attached to Ah Mei.

However, the post is not without some controversy.

Questions raised about adoption

Chief among the concerns raised in the comments section of the post was for the exact reason for the huskies being put up for adoption to be made known.

This was so as the post did not mention why were the dogs given up, and there was no mention of neglect.

On the contrary, the post even said the dogs were "loved by their owners", which did not suggest abuse.

In response to the questions and feedback, CDAS commented that the owner had voluntarily allowed the dogs to be rehomed, due to "repeated complaints from animal lovers over the living conditions".

But this did not appear to placate some who continued pressing for more answers.

The back-and-forth in the comments section even grew heated at some points.

Within six hours of the post going up, there were about 120 comments in total.

It was subsequently revealed by CDAS, in response to a query on the post, that the three dogs had been raised in an enclosed industrial area.

No specific location was mentioned though.

The comment by CDAS was in response to a query seeking clarification regarding the dogs' living condition and overall welfare, and what prompted the owner to give them up as they all looked well.

CDAS clarified that the dogs were housed in "workshops" that are "situated in a multi-storey carpark".

CDAS also revealed that all of the workshops are in the wood-making business.

The environment causes the dogs to breathe in dust and car exhaust fumes daily, CDAS said.

"Hope that explained why they should go to a home environment instead," CDAS added.

Reveal details for transparency

In another comment, CDAS wrote that they were trying to be as transparent as they can with the information they provided, without having the owners of the huskies "wrongly judged for giving up their dogs".

CDAS also suggested it will ban naysayers from the page who were not being respectful.

CDAS wrote:

For any negative comments posted here, we will offer our clarifications again. In this post we did not show any disrespect to the owners. In fact we choose to be transparent by letting the public know why the owner surrendered the dogs to CDAS. We do this by making sure the owners are not wrongly judged for giving up their dogs. If you are not able to appreciate our transparency for sharing information then we will also not accord you with the respect and you will be ban from our page so that we can focus on helping these dogs to find a home.

The post did remind those interested in adopting the dogs that huskies are not allowed to be kept in HDB residences.
