Paradise Dynasty has launched a DIY Xiao Long Bao Kit for S$23.80.
Seven steps
The kit comes with a bamboo steamer basket, bamboo steamer liner, disposable gloves, pork filling (original flavour) and 16 colourful pastry skins (that come in two sets of eight).
The cynic in you might be wondering why you would pay to make your own dumplings, but Paradise Dynasty markets it as a stay-home activity that makes for good family bonding.
If you're wondering, dining in will cost you S$8.50 for a basket of six dumplings (original flavour), or S$12.80 for a basket of 10.
You can re-create the restaurant's dumplings in seven steps.
- Defrost the pork filling and skin wrapper for 20 minutes.
- Lay the bamboo steamer liner in the steamer basket.
- Take a wrapper and hold it in your slightly cupped hand. Place 10g or one tablespoon of filling in the centre of your skin wrapper and press down gently.
- Pleat 18 folds around the edge and pinch them all together to form a closed satchel. Twist slightly to tighten it.
- Place your xiao long bao into the steamer basket, leaving space between them.
- Bring a pot of water to boil and steam for about six to seven minutes.
- Serve with vinegar and finely sliced ginger. Savour the dumplings while they are hot, preferably within five minutes of serving it.
You might need some practice with the pleating if you're a first-timer.
Frozen dumplings
Additionally, the restaurant is also selling other dumplings in frozen versions:
- Prawn and Pork Wanton in Chilli Vinaigrette (S$24.80 for 20 pcs)
- Pork Dumpling In Hot Chilli Vinaigrette (S$18.80 for 20 pcs)

- Vegetable and Pork Wanton (S$13.80 for 20 pcs)
- Vegetable and Pork Dumpling (S$14.80 for 20 pcs)
- Vegetable Bun (S$25.80 for 20 pcs)
