Chee Soon Juan, secretary-general of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), revealed that he is standing in Bukit Batok Single Member Constituency (SMC) in the coming general election.

Members and volunteers accompanying Chee during a walkabout at Bukit Batok West Shopping Centre were seen wearing t-shirts with the slogan "Chee Soon Juan for Bukit Batok".

Chee told Today when asked if he will be contesting in Bukit Batok: “Confirm, double confirm.”

SDP flyers with its “4Y1N” campaign slogan, which stands for "four yes, one no", were also given out.

Chee contested in Bukit Batok SMC during the 2016 by-election.

The by-election was called following the sudden resignation of People's Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament David Ong, due to an alleged extra marital affair.

Chee ran against the PAP's Murali Pillai and received 39 per cent of the vote.

During the 2015 GE, Chee led a team of four in Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency, along with SDP chairman Paul Tambyah, Sidek Malek and Chong Wai Fung.

The Elections Department released new guidelines on campaigning activities on Thursday, June 18.
