A 40-year-old Singaporean woman, Paramjeet Kaur, who was charged for breaching safe distancing rules on at least two occasions, is facing fresh charges.

She was caught on video in a confrontation with other members of the public, where was heard claiming that she's a "sovereign" and the police has "no say" over her.

In another clip, the woman said to people around her: "You don't tell people what to do, that's the law."

After being arrested on May 4 evening, she appeared in court on May 5 to face the charges.

Kaur was represented by Satwant Singh, a lawyer her mother engaged.

Via teleconference with the district judge on May 5, Kaur said regarding her representation: "I would just like to say something. I’m here as a living woman and that is my only capacity in this matter. I extend my sovereign immunity to Satwant and ask for Satwant to represent me."

She was then remanded at the Institute of mental Health for psychiatric observation for two weeks.

Two more charges and change in representing lawyer

On May 19, Kaur was represented by Anil Singh Sandhu instead.

The original lawyer representing her was discharged, The Straits Times reported.

Kaur also faces an additional two charges on top of her existing four charges, which included three charges under Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 and one charge of public nuisance.

One of the new charges slapped on her was in relation to her not wearing a face mask at a food stall near Shunfu estate on April 26.

She was also charged for not informing the authorities about a change of her address within 28 days after moving to a landed property at Upper Thomson Road.

Kaur refused to reply when she was asked to confirm her full name in court.

When asked if she understood the charges, Kaur said: “I am a living woman. I reserve all my rights, including my right to remain silent.”

According to Today, Kaur is out on a S$10,000 bailed put up by her mother.

Kaur has been made to surrender her travel documents.

Another condition of her bail was to abide by the Covid-19 restrictions while she's out on bail.

She will return to court on June 2.

Lianhe Wanbao reported previously that Kaur is a physiotherapist who had lived in Australia for 20 years before returning to Singapore in 2019.

This information was based on a quote by a woman who identified herself as Kaur’s mother.
