Paramjeet Kaur, the 40-year-old Singaporean who claims to be a "sovereign", will be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

Paramjeet was charged in court on May 5 on four counts — one count each of leaving her place of residence and being a public nuisance, and two counts of failing to wear a mask over her nose and mouth at all times while in public.

She appeared in court via a video link.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution requested that Paramjeet be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for a psychiatric evaluation.

In response, Paranjeet's lawyer, Satwant Singh, told the court that the prosecution wanted to remand her because she said — according to the investigation officer's report — that she was not a person and she wanted to be referred to as "thy, thou, or thee".

Satwant said that this were "not good reasons" to remand her for further investigation.

“Several witnesses felt that the accused is crazy, that is their opinion. Just because she said certain things, it does not make her crazy," said Satwant.

He requested to speak with her before she is remanded, to explain the law.

Instead, the prosecutor told Satwant that he would have time to speak to her after her two-week stay at IMH.

The prosecution's request for Paramjeet to be remanded was granted by District Judge Clement Julien Tan who said that the court wants to be satisfied about her mental state to know if she is fit to plead to the charges.

Paramjeet's next hearing will be on May 19.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, Paramjeet is a physiotherapist who returned to Singapore last year after spending 20 years in Australia.
