Since the video was uploaded, several netizens have come forward to accuse the boy's parents of negligence.

There were even some who assumed that the cyclist who rescued the boy was his father:

Cyclist did not hesitate to help child, told alleged mother to take care of him

To address these concerns, Mothership reached out to the cyclist, Zwan Giant, to hear his side of the story.

According to Zwan, the incident occurred on May 15, at around 5:41pm.

While he was cycling, he happened to see a small boy "moving from the park connector to the road via an opening on the pavement along Yishun Avenue 8", Business Insider(BI) reported.

Zwan told Mothership that he was just cycling along the road when he chanced upon the scene.

Without hesitation, Zwan signalled to the vehicles behind him to stop and hastily picked up the child, whom he estimates to be around three or four years old.

He elaborated that he had stopped in the middle of traffic as the situation was urgent and he had limited time to get to the child.

According to BI, it was then that a woman, whom Zwan presumed to be the boy’s mother, started running towards the boy from around 30 to 40 metres away.

Zwan also clarified that he only continued on his way after telling the woman to "take care of (her) child."
